2020 Magnolia Spelling Bee was a Success! The top two spellers from each school participated in the annual Magnolia School District Spelling Bee. It was a very intense competition with words like tapestry, surmised, and trifecta. Congratulations to Bryan Pham from Walt Disney Elementary School who earned top honors as this year’s champion.
Magnolia Participates in Cops 4 Kids Program The Cops 4 Kids gift-wrapping event at the Anaheim Police Station was a tremendous success. This year Cops 4 Kids is sponsoring 40 of Magnolia families, including those who have had significant losses, such as losing their home or loved one.
Behind the Mask: Storytelling through Art comes to Maxwell School Mattie Lou Maxwell School had the honor and pleasure of hosting the Anaheim Ducks "Behind the Mask: Storytelling through Art" assembly. Molly Schaus and Brett Kurtz, members of the Anaheim Ducks Fan Development Team, spoke to the upper-grade students about the history behind hockey masks and the tradition of goaltenders putting meaningful art on them.
Magnolia Teams Compete in Robotics Tournament Robotics Teams from Marshall, Maxwell and Schweitzer competed at the First Lego League tournament on Saturday November 9th. Students from each school created a project addressing a problem that is found in the cities of today, and proposing solutions for the future.
Teacher of the Year Finalist Maxwell School Teacher Melissa Brennan was honored last Friday night as one of the 6 finalists for Orange County Teachers of the Year. She was selected among 64 educators across Orange County. The glamorous event was held at the Disneyland Hotel and featured student musical performances. Magnolia Students Participate in STEM Activity On Saturday September 28th, approximately 140 students from the Magnolia School District attended a free STEM event held at the Muzeo in Anaheim. The event was put on by Andrew Needles, the CEO of Clarkson Technologies. Younger students had fun learning about polarity in batteries as they raced toy cars using magnets to propel them.
Project HERO Receives Magnificent Donation Thanks to a fantastic partnership between the Magnolia School District, Love Anaheim, the Magnolia Baptist Church and the Anaheim Rotary Club, 100 hygiene kits were assembled and donated to Project HERO.
Anaheim Rotary Donates Backpacks Filled with School Supplies Thanks to the generosity of the Anaheim Rotary Club, 308 Magnolia students will receive brand new backpacks filled with plenty of school supplies. Rotary members and Magnolia staff members delivered the backpacks to the District on Thursday, August 28th and several students and families were present to receive their backpacks. The remaining backpacks will be delivered to students across the District.
2020 Teacher of the Year Finalist Congratulations to Melissa Brennan for being selected as one of the 2020 Orange County Teachers of the Year! Mrs. Brennan was surprised in her classroom by Orange County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Al Mijares who presented her with the prestigious award. Melissa has been teaching in Magnolia School District for the last 16 years, spending the last 5 years as a Transitional Kindergarten through First grade Special Day Class teacher at Mattie Lou Maxwell School.
25th Annual Dental Clinic and Community Health Fair Saturday, February 23, 2019 marked the 25th anniversary of the Magnolia School District Dental Clinic and Community Health Fair. Dr. Jonas Salk Elementary School MPR was transformed into a Dentist’s office and the courtyard was turned into a community health fair. Students and their families from all across the district were invited to attend.
