October 2026 Board Meeting Highlights

The Board recognized Johana Nunez-Castillo, Student Achievement Teacher, as the Magnolia School District Certificated Employee of the Month, and Lorena Franco, Night Custodian, as the Classified Employee of the Month. Both honorees were introduced by Ms. Alma Guzman, Principal of Dr. Peter Marshall School.  The Board also recognized Shenna Bautista as the Magnolia School District October Volunteer of the Month. She was introduced by Ms. Alma Guzman, Principal.

Students from Dr. Peter Marshall School shared a special presentation titled “15 Years, Two Languages, One Marshall Community.” The presentation celebrated 15 years of the school's Dual Language Immersion

Program and the Marshall school community.  A video featured testimonials from former Marshall students on how Dual Immersion has helped them in their life from college to workplace examples.  Current students also spoke about the benefits of Dual Immersion.

In addition to recognizing members of the Dr. Peter Marshall School community, the Board also recognized Erik Hernandez, a student from Mattie Lou Maxwell School, for his outstanding leadership and responsibility during a recent school bus evacuation drill. When other student helpers were absent, Erik stepped up to assist his fellow students, demonstrated his knowledge of bus safety procedures, and carefully checked the bus to ensure everyone was accounted for. His actions demonstrated confidence, compassion, and a strong commitment to the safety of others.

Congratulations to all of the October honorees, and thank you to the Dr. Peter Marshall School students, staff, and families for sharing this special celebration with the Board.
